Students Choice Film:

For our student’s choice film I would suggest “Factory Girl” starring Sienna Miller who plays Andy Warhol’s muse Edie Sedgwick. Sedgwick came to New York, after leaving college, where she quickly found herself being surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the art world during the 60’s. Warhol became obsessed with her staring her in many of his short films. Sedgwick practically lived with him at the “factory” which was his studio. I think this film correlates with the other films that we’ve seen because although the film isn’t focused directly on Warhol, it shows how fame through the artistic realm can quickly turn to tragedy just like previous artists we’ve seen. Sedgwick dies from a drug over dose at the young age of 28. Her downfalls can be contributed from drug and alcohol abuse, as well as criticism from others.

Another film that I would suggest would be “Girl With a Pearl Earring.” I have always loved this film, which is based on the book about a young peasant maid working for the painter Johannes Vermeer, and becomes his assistant and model. The film is not an entirely accurate description of his life, but the film does a good job of showing the viewer his painting process and Scarlett Johansson does a beautiful job acting.
